About West Herts Hockey Club.
Welcome to the website of West Herts HC, the home of hockey in Watford. Here you will find everything you might need to know about the Club.
Whether you are a prospective player or just curious about what we do here, we have a Club history, details of our junior and community development schemes, all the results from our fixtures, a caption competition, training information including a full structured regime for hockey fitness, photo galleries, amusing anecdotes from numerous tours, and links to the wider world of hockey...
The Winter season has just finished with success for the ladies section; the ladies 1st XI initially missed promotion to East Premier by 1 point, but investigations into the results of second placed Sevenoaks II resulted in a points deduction for the Kent side and promotio for the girls. Further success came as the 2's and 3's both won promotion in the 5 Counties leagues; The ladies 4th XI found their feet and set a base for more progress next season.
It was a mixed season all round for the mens club, the 4th XI will return to Div 5SW in 2008/9, and a good campaign from the 1s bodes well for next year too. Elsewhere there were mixed fortunes with relegation for the 2s, and a narrow escape for the 3s.
The season was rounded off in style with our Annual Dinner which was attended by over 100 members and saw the presentation of all the Club's awards and trophies.
The club is playing Summer hockey at Southgate is with 2 men's teams playing and one from the ladies club. Click on the links below to see the fixtures and results for each team.

More about West Herts HC.
West Herts aims to provide hockey for all standards of player, man and woman, boy & girl-regardless of age. There are six mens and four ladies sides, plus a thriving junior hockey coaching session on Sundays, with fully CRB checked coaches.
The men's teams and ladies 1st XI all play in "NE14hockey" leagues with the rest of the ladies teams residing in the 5 Counties league.
Our ambition, ultimately is to acquire National League status for both Men and Ladies; in the meantime however the emphasis is always on staying as close-knit and sociable as possible as we head towards that goal.
The club is currently formulating its' application for "Clubs 1st" status, and as part of that are formulating a strategy to take hockey into local junior and senior schools to broaden interest in the game in the Watford area.
The club also runs a mixed seven-a-side tournament in the summer months, with several local clubs joining West Herts' own members at this novel and high scoring form of the game. A new innovation for the late Summer will see a "Corporate 5's" tournament aimed at broadening the awareness of the Club and the wider game of hockey within the business community, so if your office is sporty organise a group of players and contact us via the website.
There is a strong tradition of touring at West Herts and the Club now plays both at home and abroad; in recent years we have sent teams to Dublin, Lier in Belgium, Kiel in Germany, Rotterdam and Eindhoven in the Netherlands, Barcelona, and Verona- plus a regular August Bank Holiday visit to Salisbury. This year we spent the "real" Whitsun bank holiday beside the sea at Travemunde in Germany.
The emphasis here is on having fun, and enjoying the tremendous sociability and cameraderie that can be found in the sport of Hockey- come and join us...

AGM News.
The AGM dealt with the regular ins and outs of the Club. We are in a sound position financially with funds to tide us through a lean year and to pay for the necessities of running the show.
A key piece of news is the election of Alex "Ocko" Hodgkinson as 1st XI captain, it's great to have him in the post and we wish him and the side all the best in their quest for a return to Prem' A.
Full minutes will be posted here in due course.
The revision of the Subs system was agreed in principle, with some alterations and tweaks to be made by the Committee.
Please watch this space and be prepared to share your views on the final form of this major change in the admin of West Herts.
